1. CHRISTMAS TREES AND FAMILY TREES
Most Bible readers skip over the long lists of names in genealogies. However, such records serve a very useful function reminding us of the larger story that is unfolding over many generations. At the beginning of Matthew the family tree of Jesus includes a rather interesting group of women who would not normally be mentioned in such lists.
2. ELIZABETH, MOTHER OF JOHN THE BAPTIST
Known mostly by her role as the mother of John the Baptist and elderly relative of Mary, Elizabeth is a striking woman in her own right. A closer look at the text in context reveals a truly Godly person who demonstrates something of the role that an individual can plan in the unfolding drama of God’s great plan.

Often overlooked by Protestants and over-emphasized by Roman Catholics, Mary has become quite controversial. Here’s an opportunity to take a fresh look at a woman who helps us focus on God as she focuses upon the launch of a whole new age comprising of a radically new order, Mary takes her place in eschatology.
4. WOULD YOU ADAM AND EVE IT?
At times there is a great deal of confusion arising from the fact that we fail to distinguish what the Bible actually says and what we think that it says. This is particularly true when considering the relationship between men and women. Returning to square one we examine the creation account of Adam and Eve. Many who have been reading the Bible for years are in for a surprise.

Among the various contending schools of biblical interpretation God has been portrayed as an angry, aggressive man or as a mother. When take time to listen to the Bible itself and get familiar with God according to God, then we shall surely find that God does not always fit into our human categories.

To this day the story of Israel is totally unintelligible apart from the Exodus. Centre stage in that story stands the figure of Moses. Yet, how often do we take time to reflect on the women who played a vital role in the life of this man? A study of these women, including the midwives, will help us appreciate how individuals figure in the narrative of God’s own story.
