DVD1 – JEWISH ROOTS OF RESURRECTION HOPE
Death is not final. That is the striking message to be found in both testaments. From the Hebrew Bible we learn that the world is not well, but rather it is seriously ill especially as a result of the presence of DEATH. However through the Jewish scriptures we can lift up our eyes and have hope – the prophets of Israel give us visions of the future and hope of the future.
DVD2 – DEATH – THE LAST ENEMY
What does the Bible actually say about death? Exposing the devil’s lie that humans would not surely die because of disobedience, the Scriptures face up to the reality of death. It is both a threat and a curse, a totally alien interruption in the nature of being. We reflect on the reaction of Jesus himself to the death of a friend and think about how this helps us all cope with the presence of death.
DVD 3 – INTIMATIONS OF IMMORTALITY (part 1)
Death is both prevalent and pervasive as the direct opposite to life in our world. Yet withal, God takes the initiative to address this and from the very beginning of his unfolding plan of redemption he represents life. We visit Eden, the Tabernacle and the Temple to find how each of these God-given sanctuaries spoke life into a world of death.
DVD 4 – INTIMATIONS OF IMMORTALITY (part 2)
Obviously the Pharisees, Jesus and Paul had no New Testament to read! Yet all of them affirmed the fundamental fact of the resurrection as a fundamental of true belief. Here we take time to journey through the Hebrew Bible listening to Daniel, Isaiah, Hosea and Ezekiel as they lay the foundations of this central affirmation of both Judaism and Christianity.
DVD 5 – JOHN POINTS THE WAY
With the help of John’s Gospel we examine the concept of eternal life which is popularly understood as something that only starts on the other side of the grave. Taking time to appreciate the Jewish context of Jesus’ teaching and John’s writing we find clarification on this fascinating topic. So crucial are the implications of this teaching that they cannot be postponed to life beyond the grave.
DVD 6 – EYEWITNESSES OF THE RESURRECTION
Abraham Heschel once wrote that “no other deficiency makes the soul more barren than the lack of a sense for the unique.” The resurrection of Jesus, the Christ is totally unique and to verify its authenticity, the Apostle Paul introduces us to a list of eyewitnesses. As we meet them we also take time to ask at what time of the day was Jesus raised?
