Perhaps you have been to Israel and seen many of the famous Biblical sites but now you want to study a theme in more depth and go where most tourists never go. This tour is themed around the significance of the wilderness throughout the Bible.
We shall explore the world of Abraham and Sarah and get acquainted with the wilderness – visiting the Mount Sodom lookout and stand by the pillar associated with Lot’s wife.
Experience the wonder of the wilderness by night as we go walking.
Reflect on the imagery of David, the shepherd, poet and king. So much of the figurative language of the Psalms comes to life in the wilderness setting.
We shall walk in the footsteps of Ruth and Naomi, following an ancient path through the Judean wilderness, with the Dead Sea behind and Bethlehem on the horizon ahead of us.
For the prophets the wilderness was a place of promise and the quietness of the wilderness is an ideal place to sit reflecting on Isaiah and Jeremiah. We shall also explore the world of the Qumran community (who gave us the Dead Sea Scrolls) – a group who withdrew to the wilderness to fulfil the words of Isaiah.
With Leviticus 16 open before us, we walk the route of the scapegoat – following a path due east of Jerusalem that leads 10kms into the wilderness.
Relive the reality of the story of the Good Samaritan as we stand overlooking the Wadi Qelt. As with all our tours we shall spend the last few days in Jerusalem
